WINTERHILL FACILITY, MILTON KEYNES

Before leaving F1 and replaced by RedBull Powertrain, EPScm successfully supported the Honda engine team at their Milton Keynes facility. The facility was primarily RnD and battery testing, construction activities were therefore an unwanted interruption to critical onsite operations.

Phased working, out of hours delivery, double shift arrangements became the norm onsite to ensure we met critical project deadlines to minimise disruption to Honda activities wherever possible. The property was leased and in order to successfully navigate through complex LTAs, decisions were made to modularise lots of the construction activity and wrap around the existing facility, easily removed at later dates.

A critical project delivered by EPScm onsite was Project Shinten, a new containerised battery manufacturing facility. Over 70Lnm of bespoke containers were designed and built offsite. Built on skid bases this enabled far more efficient foundations to be poured onsite with a track/strip like foundations to receive the modular facilities. Many of the cells/rooms were to house intricate battery testing kit, shaker equipment etc. As a result of the potential volatility and explosive nature of the product much of the infrastructure was Atex rated, sealed rooms with sealed ventilation systems, multiple knock fire alarm system interfaced with gas and condensed aerosol suppression systems.

Other business critical project onsite saw EPScm work closely with Motorsport specialists AVL and Digatron for the delivery of NDT testing, climate chambers, Material laboratories etc. Our role in these projects was to provide appropiate environments for both their supporting infrastructure, safe secure routes from this space to the client end user testing facilities where EPScm again supported with base build infrastructure and coordination for the smooth and successful installation of the testing equipment.

Collaboration with a wide range in internal client stakeholders was essential to arrange multiple system shutdowns enabling infrastructure upgrades, providing access into extremely sensitive areas for routing the services to the new testing facilities. The strength of relationship between our Management and the client Project lead meant Honda were at complete ease with EPScm communicating direct to AVL, Digatron but also the internal stakeholder group. This provided all involved the comfort that the project was in control, delivery was smoother, communication was timely, informative and critical end dates satisfying client deadlines and operational cycles were fixed.

Due to strict client NDAs, imagery of projects delivered are limited but we are happy to share reference details or arrange site visits if required.
